The availability of an Automatic External Defibrillator is essential in most cases of cardiac arrest, as it "shocks" the heart back into its proper rhythm. It is not an option to wait until the arrival of the ambulance, the only way to save the patient is by EARLY DEFIBRILLATION from an automatic external defibrillator, coupled with effective CPR. You can see these units at airports, sporting clubs, football stadiums, schools, government offices, and many other public places.
The cost of these defibrillators has reduced considerably in recent years due to advanced technology. Even though it's advisable to partake in a CPR course that includes Automatic External Defibrillation to operate these units, they are user friendly. Anyone can operate it as the machine "talks" to the operator.
